Imagery of your city that's never more than six months old

Current drone imagery for the municipalities and utilities that keep city infrastructure running.

Every square inch in your service area is recaptured at least once every six months, with additional fresh captures made available within 72 hours when you request it.

Every department is asking questions that your basemap can’t answer.

When the basemap is 6+ months out of date,
planners, assessors, crews and responders all end up driving out to look.

So field crews fill the gaps with unstructured documents, and GIS inherits the mess.

Every site visit adds phone photos, PDFs, spreadsheets and email threads, each named, dated and stored differently. Before anyone can use them, someone in GIS or IT has to find, sort, geotag and reconcile it all.

Why Living Coverage is better

Airplane flyovers

Airplanes fly on a fixed schedule,
so your basemap is only as current
as the last flight.

Spexi Living Coverage

Spexi’s local drone pilot network updates imagery across your city continuously, area by area.

Two copies of the same 3D city block basemap sit side by side. On the left, labelled airplane flyovers, the whole map flashes as it is captured all at once, shows in full colour, then fades completely to grey as it ages, before the next flyover refreshes it all again. On the right, labelled Spexi Living Coverage, hexagon-shaped capture areas (Spexigons) outlined over the map flash and refresh in turn, so the whole block is completely refreshed every six months, twice as often as the flyover, and no section ages more than halfway before it is refreshed again.Airplane flyoversEverything at once, then it agesSpexi Living CoverageArea by area, continuously

How it works

Spexigons

Spexi divides your city into Spexigons, standard units of 25 acres (0.1 sqkm).
Local drone pilots fly automated flight plans, standardizing structured imagery data.

  1. Standardized capture area

  2. Multi-capture angles

Nadir and oblique views on every capture.

  3. 2.8 cm resolution

    Ground sample distance per pixel.

Use cases

  • Planning and development

See what's been built, cleared, or subdivided since the last cycle, and keep land-use layers current.

  • Assessment

Confirm new builds, additions, and demolitions before the annual roll closes.

  • Public works and asset management

Keep road, sidewalk, and right-of-way layers current, and plan capital work from conditions no more than six months old.

  • Parks and recreation

Monitor trails, tree canopy and park assets across every site, and check storm damage before sending crews out.

  • Energy and utilities

Track vegetation growth and right-of-way encroachment around distribution assets inside city limits, season over season.

  • Emergency management

Keep a pre-event baseline on file that's never more than six months old. After an event, add on-demand capture within 72 hours.

  • Bylaw and code enforcement

Compare property conditions across capture cycles with timestamped, geo-verified imagery.

  • GIS teams

Publish one current imagery layer to every department, instead of chasing field photos and one-off flights.

  • Insurance

Check roofs, structures and site conditions for underwriting and portfolio reviews, and confirm post-event damage before adjusters arrive.

  • Telecom

Plan network builds and fiber routes from current conditions, and check pole lines and right-of-way before crews roll out.

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Our team can walk you through coverage in your area.

What is Living Coverage?

It's an area-based entitlement that keeps imagery no more than six months old. It also includes the captures already on file and lets you request fresh imagery when you need it.

How often is my area refreshed?

Every area is recaptured at least every six months.

What if I need imagery sooner?

Request an on-demand capture. In active coverage areas, it's delivered within 72 hours of collection.

What happens if my imagery goes past six months?

Spexi recaptures the area and credits your account.

Can I subscribe to any area I want?

Subscriptions (referred to as entitlements) cover Spexi coverage zones, which include 100+ major U.S. and Canadian cities. Outside those zones, you can order one-off captures or buy existing imagery. Contact Sales to request a new area.

Can I buy a single image instead of a subscription?

Yes. If the imagery exists, buy it from the archive. If it doesn't, request a new capture.

Is Living Coverage right for construction monitoring?

Not on its own. Active job sites change faster than a six-month cycle. Use on-demand capture for milestone imagery, and Living Coverage to keep the surrounding area current.

What do I actually receive?

Static Images in nadir and oblique views, plus Standard or Aligned Orthomosaics as add-ons. Imagery is delivered through the Image API, Spexi Worldviewer, or ArcGIS.

What resolution is the imagery?

2.8 cm (1.1 inch) ground sample distance.

Does it work with ArcGIS?

Yes. Living Coverage imagery is available in ArcGIS through the Spexi Content Store for ArcGIS.

Who can use it in my organization?

Each subscription includes 25 seats, with unlimited API calls.

Can we share the imagery with other departments or the public?

You can use it across your organization and in your own maps and reports.

How is the imagery licensed?

Your subscription licenses the imagery for use across your organization, including in your own maps, reports, and applications, for the life of your subscription. Captures shared into your area by other customers come with the same rights. For public redistribution or other uses, contact Sales.

Is past imagery included?

Yes. Captures already on file for your area come with the subscription.

Where is imagery not captured?

Spexi doesn't capture over airports, correctional facilities, large bodies of water, or among tall downtown buildings, in line with flight regulations.

How is this different from scheduled aerial flyovers?

Aerial flyovers operate on a fixed cadence. Often, their maximum revisit is capped at every 6 months. Living Coverage is continuously collecting imagery to keep each image no older than 6 months the effective minimum refresh rate.

How much does it cost?

Living Coverage for major cities starts at $100 per sq km. Price depends on area size, add-ons, and current promotions.

What could your teams achieve with Spexi Living Coverage?
